After you begin taking buspirone, 1 to 2 weeks may pass before you begin to feel the effects of this medicine. Using this medicine with any of the following may cause an increased risk of certain side effects but may be unavoidable in some cases. If both medicines are prescribed together, your doctor may change the dose or how often you use one or both of the medicines. Your doctor may decide not to treat you with this medication or change some of the other medicines you take.

What are buspirone’s side effects?

• If you have sexual side effects with buspirone, talk with your doctor.
• However, there has been one report of prolonged prothrombin time when buspirone was added to the regimen of a patient treated with warfarin.
• For example, buspirone may increase centralnoradrenergic activity; alternatively, the effect may be attributable to dopaminergic effects (i.e.,represent akathisia).
• Consequently, patients should take buspirone in a consistent mannerwith regard to the timing of dosing; either always with or always without food.

Your healthcare provider will advise you if you should take buspirone while breastfeeding. It is unknown if buspirone passes into breast milk. Your healthcare provider will advise you if you should take buspirone while you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. It is not known if or how buspirone could affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby.

BuSpar works by affecting neurotransmitters in the brain to help control symptoms of anxiety, such as a racing heartbeat, sweating, jitters, and trouble sleeping.

BuSpar Uses

There are benefits and risks to taking medications while breastfeeding. This happens when this medication is used with other ones that increase serotonin levels. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Talk with your care team about all the medications you take. Other medications may affect the way this medication works.

However, it has been reported since buspirone became available. For example, your doctor may recommend an OTC treatment such as bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto Bismol). No evidence of carcinogenic potential was observed in rats during a 24 month study at approximately133 times the maximum recommended human oral dose; or in mice, during an 18 month study atapproximately 167 times the maximum recommended human oral dose. You should take buspirone hydrochloride consistently, either always with or always without food. Rebound or withdrawal symptoms may occur over varyingtime periods, depending in part on the type of drug, and its effective half-life of elimination. Human volunteers with a history of recreational drug or alcohol usage were studied in two doubleblind clinical investigations. When used in combination with a potent inducer of CYP3A4 the dosage of buspirone may need adjusting to maintain anxiolytic effect. Consequently, when administered with a potent inhibitor of CYP3A4, a low dose of buspirone used cautiously is recommended.

Do not share buspirone with other people, even if they have the same condition as you. Do not take buspirone unless it has been prescribed to you by a healthcare provider. If there is a concern about the health of your liver, your healthcare provider may do tests to determine if it is working well enough to take this medicine. Your pharmacist can tell you all of the ingredients in the specific buspirone products they stock.
